People might be able (if "in" your system already thru some trojan)...to turn ON your web cam without your knowledge. Best thing to do probably is to put a black piece of construction paper ('cause it's thick) over the lens so nothing can be seen.

Perhaps a thin dab of Vaseline so the movie is enhanced with partially blurred suggestive imagery?

I just couldn't resist.
Every machine should have a very decent and updated security program.
easier solution.. that blue painter's tape.. blocks the view and does not leave a sticky residue.

There is a VERY creepy tale from a few years ago. It all happened in a small cul de sac neighborhood. A teenage girl started getting harassing messages and calls. She turned her phone off. In the middle of the night her cell phone started "ringing" except the ringtone changed to a voice saying "why aren't you answering".

It eventually spread to her dad, her mom, and event he neighbors. Their phones would call each other, text each other, and send pictures to each other seemingly on their own. Eventually her dad was receiving messages asking him rather specific questions about his current location.

As it turns out most cell phones have simple diagnostic program. If it's on a computer and they know your cell number they can make your phone do ANYTHING it was designed to do, except remotely from their computer. They can view your GPS location, look through the camera, send texts/calls, download stuff onto your phone, ect.

Some of the diagnostic programs have unfortunately made their way onto the internet. They are still pretty rare and complicated though.

I have a smiley face sticker over my webcam.
Never use the thing so why not, it's cute and makes me grin.....
paranoria if you ask me.... less than 1% of those surfing internet with cams are hacked and have cameras turned on remotely. And out of those being turned on, its someone in the house trying to catch the bf, gf, SO, of cheating. why in the fuck would a hacker want to see ur ugly mug?

Even as an IT admin, we dont use this. sure we snoop but not to invade visually. and all computers show activity when cam is on. Learn your pcs.

Noticed this story the other day, thought it was on point.
Just stay fully clothed all of the time, and don't say anything quotable.
