shady photographers

so, i was just reading a thread i'm following where one of the eccie girls was ripped off by her photographer, and several other girls allowed as how they never get professional pics because they're scared of what the shooter will do with the images, i.e. posting them to porn sites.

that stopped me in my tracks because i posted this just yesterday:

it never occurred to me that would be a girl's worry because...that's something i'd never do. nor would any true professional, and here's why: real shooters want total control of their images for one reason, and that's revenue. that's why we use contracts and licensing agreements. i understand those might not be kosher in this world, but if your photographer doesn't at least ask, find a new photographer. at a minimum, reading a license agreement will tell you what the shooter expects legit usage of images to be. i won't let you put your picture on t-shirts and start selling them, and i'd never scatter valuable images around the internet where they aren't making me any money...unless it's in the contract.

i'll also reiterate what i said over there...it's like the provider biz...if you want to know how a shooter will be to work with, talk to other girls who've used him/her. some of us, at least, actually are honest.
