With FIOS they have stopped the role out to all other areas. It has shown to not be feasible for them to do so based on "penetration" rates (yes said that on this board).".

I used to call them every month and they kept telling me "soon" and we're getting closer and closer to your neighborhood. I finally ran into someone who worked for them... and that is their dirty little secret... they are not expanding at all. And forget EVER seeing them if you are in the city proper.
The guy who enlightened me told me that running FIOS wires ran into the millions of dollars per mile.
I happened to move into an area where FIOS was already installed. It's a multiple unit complex in the West Seneca area. I think there are 20+ buildings with 12 units in each building.
All of the apartments are FIOS Ready.... sort of.
The FIOS lines run into each basement building. If you order FIOS... they send the tech over etc.
I was watching the tech do his job and it was quite interesting to me that while the building was wired.... they did NOT run FIOS wire into each individual apartment. What they did was create a "Dummy Box" in each apartment, and into that "dummy box", they fished a plain ordinary string through the walls etc.
If someone orders FIOS, they then tie the FIOS Wires to the string and then pull the wires etc. The tech guy told me that the cost of running the actual wire was very expensive, so they don't run the actual wire until someone orders the service.
On an additional note:
The price of the service got really expensive after the first year when my free DVR and other incentives ran out. The price got unaffordable after two years.
So I called retention... and the best they could do was $10 off.
So... I switched to Time Warner and got my bill back down to $100 (includes taxes etc) for internet, phone and tv. (My Gawd was TW slow in comparison to FIOS).
Two months after switching to TW... lo and behold there was an offer from FIOS hanging on my front door with a $79 a month promotion.
I called and had the sales girl come over and ended up paying about $105 (again including taxes fees etc) for everything I wanted with a price guarantee of two years. Also got a $100 visa gift card, $100 Amazon Gift Card and a ten dollar Wegmans gift card.
I asked her if I was gonna have to switch over to TW again in two years in order for her to renew me at my present rate.
