I get around the state of Texas monthly. Since the passing of the open carry law a few years ago I was prepared to see weapons on people during my travels. To date I have noticed 2 people with weapons. One was at Buc-ees in San Antonio and a guy at a rest stop by Sealy. I doubt the new law will add very much to the people who open carry now. Plus any bad guys who will open carry no doubt had a weapon hidden anyway.

The "open carry" from the past was different. Have you read them?

For decades there has been an "issue" with respect to "traveling" and it would be helpful if the legislature would provide a consistent definition to apply throughout the state. They have failed again in the latest version of handgun carrying.

As an aside ... if you haven't seen them being carried then it seems some folks have a good understanding of "the law"! This law is properly labeled "Firearm Carry Act" ....

These "carry laws" remind me of lifting the mask mandate recently. A business can still require one to wear a mask to enter and can require employees to wear masks .... leave your handgun in the vehicle ..... and hope someone doesn't see you leaving it there.

The traditional politicians seeking to eliminate access to certain firearms are primarily focusing (at this time) on long barreled (rifles) firearms....they don't mention handguns and/or shotguns ... in so far as attempting to outright "ban" them ...

With respect to the legislation mentioned in the OP my cursory look reveals that the final version passed and sent to the Gov for signature creates more potential conflict for LE and citizen interaction. There is a provision that an LE officer is authorized to take possession of the handgun until the contact is completed AND the officer believes to do so is safe. Hopefully, before deciding to be a cowboy citizens ought to become familiar with the requirements and responsibilities of carrying in order to avoid an escalation in a confrontation.

If one has a valid CHL, then there is not so much worry.

I've had my CHL for well over a decade at this point. I've always found it ridiculously stupid to open carry-- not only are you telling the "bad guys" who to target first... you're also not considering that LE isn't always aware of who the good guys are. Can't remember the country star that happened to be at the Las Vegas mass shooting who said that he was glad that he wasn't carrying that day-- simply because he knew the cops wouldn't be able to easily distinguish the good guys from the bad guys.
