The Great Vodka debate

TinMan's Avatar
A few guys and I were debating quality vodkas, and we thought it might be a good discussion for another thread.

I'm more of a gin guy myself, but I tend to drink more vodka on dates as that tends to be the liquor of choice for many ladies. Long ago I was a Ketel One, guy. Then tried Belvedere, Chopin, etc., until I settled on Grey Goose. I like it better than some of the others because it has less of the medicinal taste as most other vodkas. Remained a fan for a long time, until a provider introduced me to Tito's.

For those of you who don't know, Tito's is the only legally distilled beverage (meaning spirits, not beer) manufactured in Texas. It's made in Austin, by a guy with a college degree who had no previous experience other than drinking the stuff in his travels.

Tito's is as clean and smooth as any vodka I've tasted, and it's half the price of Grey Goose. I'll still pick up a bottle of GG L'Orange from time to time, just for something different. But Tito's is definitely my fave.

So, drinking community, what's your favorite vodka?

Hi TM! You've mentioned some good vodkas in your post. I'm normally a scotch drinker, glenlivet either neat or a couple of rocks.

When drinking vodka,I prefer it on the rocks with a splash of water so like a clean and smooth tasting vodka...my fav is grey goose and monopolowa. The latter is a Austrian potato vodka that's less than 1/2 the price of the former.

Peace!

Tinman,

Great subject. I enjoy vodka from time to time. I was originally put off it by my college experiences with Smirnoff or any other plastic bottle vodka. I too am a scotch drinker (MacCallan). However, when I drink vodka, I prefer Grey Goose. However, I may have to try Tito's based on your intel.

I like Chopin and Belvedere as well as Grey Goose and Tito's! Just as long as it isn't McCormicks I will drink the hell out of it if it's available!

I'm more of a whiskey drinker - Forty Creek!

I was a Grey Goose drinker for a long time, and still am if it's a bar with a limited selection, but if I'm doing the shopping Tito's is on the short list, as is Hangar One. They're another small distillery out on the old Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA (Hence the name) They make some amazingly smooth stuff as well as some interesting limited edition "Alchemists Blends" Wasabi Vodka anyone?
I prefer Grey Goose as well. I'm going to have to look up this Tito's for sure though!
TITO'S!! Very smooth. It's reeeeally good mixed with Big K (Kroger brand) peach soda.
I don't think Tito's is the only Texas Vodka. There is also Dripping Springs. Harder to find than Tito's, but I like it better. Also like Hanger One. Although Hanger One specializes in fruit "infused" vodka, I think there plain vodka is about the best going.
I myself like berry ciroc straight

Titos on the rocks, if not available Ciroc with soda...

I am a Macallan guy.. or islay Lagavulling.

Titos is awsome...
Titos or Chopin and I prefer my cosmo in a short glass so I dont catch to much hell from my buddies for drinking a "chic" drink
Titos is by far the best vodka for the price and goody goody liquor is always the cheapest store to buy it. Normally $28 for 1.75 liter. Grey Gosse is great, if cost means nothing to you. Belvedere and Level are good too, but I still have to say Tito's is my favorite.

I used to be a Ketel One guy...then on trip a to Amsterdam...asked for some at a bar...and was sharply rebuked for being a dumb American...cuz it's so bad...the Dutch won't drink it...so they send it over here.

Guess what happened when I asked for Grey Goose in France...ditto.

So...now I am Totally Tito's! We make it here...we sell it here...and I drink it here!

One twist though...I bought a bottle of Dan Akroyd's Crystal Skull Vodka...it was OK...and very $$$$...so now...I just use it as decantur for my Titos...oh and one for the Don Julio as well.

Tito's Rules!

On the flavored side - I like Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka! I can sip on that all day long, or at least til I pass out.
