Hobbyist and the Law

We get advice around here on how a hobbyist should behave when confronted by LE. This is a cautionary tale of what actually happened to one guy:

A lot of effort and dollars for a misdemeanor that amounted to nothing. Our tax dollars at work.
How did the police know what went on in the apt ? Just because your in the building, does it mean or do the police presume what your there for ?

If this guy wasn't a local Politician most likely he wouldn't have even been charged or this story printed. Unless they had additional evidence of wrong doing nothing actionable took place based on the information in the News Story. And its nice to see the Authorities in California are more interested in busting "Johns" and "Prostitutes" than the Criminals running the "Human Trafficking Rings".
