Hacker? Virus? Not certain, but . . .

This is absolut.

My email of record is rgreenmont@yahoo.com.
I have contacted no one by this email account other than to request a session.
So if you have received an email from the rgreenmont@yahoo.com account with anything other than text (such as attachments, or a pix), or if it has no message but only a link of any kind,

YOU SHOULD DELETE IT.
DO NOT OPEN IT.

Apparently a hacker has gotten into my contacts file, and has sent out some bogus emails.

I was apprised by an eccie friend that she had received one or more spam emails from that email address. I have asked that friend to email those of you who were listed on the email she received. But others may have been targeted, too.

The most recent email she received had an HTML link.

As a matter of course, you should ALWAYS delete such a link when it comes in unexpectedly. Hyper Terminal Language is always bad news, except when you KNOW the source and purpose.

DELETE ALL SUCH FILES.

I have scanned my own computer and found NO viruses, trojan horse files, etc.

I hope this is a non-event and passes without damage.

Good luck.

By the way, I have changed all the password and entry protocols for all my accounts. It may be too little too late, but it is a start.

I may be changing the account of record for my eccie account.
If you have information regards this activity or event, please pass it on to a MODERATOR.

Again, good luck, and play safely.

Best regards,

absolut
This exact same thing has happened to another member on this board. Someone has gotten ahold of his email account on yahoo. They are sending emails out to everyone in his contact list. Putting a link to a website for some "make money from home" thing. I am wondering if there is a connection to eccie? Mods might want to look into it..
I run Linux and when it gets these links it giggles at them

spriti13, how does linux get the links??

i thought the only way to see the link is by viewing the email.

are you talking about attempting to navigate to the link's destination??
if so, then that'd would be a combination of the email reader and a web browser [might be embedded in the email reader].

or are you just thumbing your nose at those of us running windows??

seriously, i would like to know.
It gets the links just like a Windows based PC.. but because the link contains payload designed to run under the Windows Architecture, it cannot run under Linux.

I will say this: unless you need a specific program under windows, and if you have a spare machine, get the latest version of Ubuntu and install it.

It contains : Open Office - will do everything MS Office will
: Pigeon IM - one program for all your IM's, twitter etc.
: Firefox (Chrome can be installed too) self explainitory
Evolution email - can access POP3 email, IMAP email (Google mail) and your Exchange mail.

Ubuntu is free, the GUI (window) can be customized to look like windows, updates for free and installing programs also is free.

The only issue I have run into is I had a Brother MFC 3360C all in one printer... it was not supported. so for 80.00 plus tax I got me an Epson Workforce 615 which IS supported and gave me scanner/fax/copy/print and is networkable.

Also, when you go to install it, the installation allows you to encrypt your HD so all the content is encrypted.

Again if you have a spare pc or laptop, give it a try... you might find you need MS less and less.
