I'm a big horror movie fan and my top 5 is always changing. Here are some current favorites:

1. Deep Red (1975) - A very creepy Italian Giallo film. The doll in the movie is the stuff of nightmares. The lead looks just like Paul McCartney, which is pretty hilarious.

2. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) - This film is often overlooked by horror fans because Michael Myers isn't in it. However, after Halloween II, John Carpenter had originally intended for the series to become more of an anthology, which each film telling a different story. The very idea of masks being used to kill people on Halloween is just very creepy. The film also has one of my favorite horror villains ever, Conal Cochran (Played by The Old Man from Robocop).

3. The Exorcist III (1990) - Honestly, I like this more than the original. Whereas the 1973 film used visuals to scare you, this entry in the series manages to be scarier just by having characters describe the horrible events taking place. Both George C. Scott and Brad Dourif turn in terrific performances. The hallway scene in the hospital (You know the one if you've seen the film) is probably one of the scariest scenes in a horror movie ever.

4. Magic (1978) - A very disturbing film with Anthony Hopkins as a ventriloquist who has a nervous breakdown and begins talking to his dummy. Apparently the trailer scared kids in the seventies so much that it was taken off the air.

5. Lifeforce (1985) - Okay, not the greatest movie. But Mathilda May got me through puberty.

Great thread! I could go on forever.

Much like MC my favorites are every changing. The Nightmare on Elm Street series is my ATF when it comes to the horror genre. The last one that was made within the original series is, I feel, incredibly underrated. (Wes Craven's New Nightmare) It was a fantastic way to close the original portion of the series.

I am also a very, very big fan of John Jarrat's work in Wolf Creek!
I do not can not watch horror movies. I'm very sensitive to such things and would scream like a little girl.

I've never been a huge horror movie fan but do like some of the "thrillers' especially some of the Stephen King classics. My favorite is "The Shinning" with Jack Nicholson...."Here's Johnny"
