iPhone risk

@%**#$%#@!. News just broke that Apple keeps an unencrypted location history
on your iPhone AND your synced desktop computer - easily available to
anyone technically savvy. Legal sites are already putting the word out
to divorce attorneys. It uses cell tower triangulation so disabling
the gps does not stop it. I will have to keep my iPhone turned off
when doing out of normal orbit hobbying until a fix shows up. Damn,
it's getting dangerous.
So as long as you're not married you're ok then right? Man, this hobby thing is really getting to be too much work.

You could also put it in airplane mode.

Ever hear of a 'hobby phone"? The Iphone stays in the office or house when you are heading to an appointment or talking to an escort and never the two shall meet.

I heard part of a news story where some cops can now copy your GPS history, text messages etc., and they said the best idea was to just take the battery out.

There are plenty of good reasons why a man might also need to have his regular phone with him for the ride. For example: Need to call the office, need to call home, for an emergency, etc. I always travel with a couple of phones in tow.

This is good information to share. And for the record, I suggested that he share this bit of news. It's very germane to what all of us do in this realm.

Personally, it's information like this that makes me glad that I'm single.

The Original report:

Got an iPhone or 3G iPad? Apple is recording your moves

Anybody with access to this file knows where you've been over the last year, since iOS 4 was released.

I wonder how precise it is.

My incall is in a mixed-use complex so a client's car can innocently be parked in the lot in front of the various shops and restaurants. Ideally, this phone thing will just pinpoint them somewhere in the building, not a particular apartment. eeek!

That's probably wishful thinking, right?
Its good enough to get you in a bit of trouble.

I just added to my online ads that I can recover and deciper this info. Looking forward to calls from wives and girlfriends as the word spreads.

Have fun all. Big Brother is not really watching, not at all.
So I guess having a Blackberry and not an Iphone is a good ideal since I know that all my text messages are scrambled and not recoverable even by the gov.

At work we are getting new windows phones and the IT guy was talking about how we can find each other! I saw a fix, but I don't know if it is true.

So when you turn off the location services, it still tracks you? What if it turned off?
There is no fix for the iPhones and 3g iPads. No way to turn it off as its not GPS doing the tracking. Best you can do is turn on the encryption of your data. My daughter works in Apple support for the iPhone and iPad. Getting lots of calls about this issue.
