Reflection on our Libyan "Victory"

Uh, we won, didn't we? I mean we killed Qadafi in support of the rebels desire for freedom, didn't we? Then why this?

Get over the fairy tale that these wars are to defeat terrorism and promote freedom. They are only benefitting the oil and defense industry. God help us and forgive us.

Like Iraq, trading the devil you know for the one you don't.

That being said, at least Libya wasn't a counterweight to a aggressive next door neighbor like Iraq. And we are in a position to influence via the withholding of aid the evolution of the post war government to a limited degree here where we were not in Iraq. But still, the point is well taken.

I guess we want to promote civilized society, like in Saudi Arabia.

Removing a murdering thug like Quadaffy or Osama and Sadam before him, benefits the victims and the US. All yearn to be free of oppression. Should I not stop my neighbor who is abusing his daughter because perhaps his wife is as bad or worse? But, perhaps NATO forgot Colin Powell's words of advise: if you break it you buy it. Trying to influence the new Libyan govt by withholding aid will send them straight to the Chinese. The unintended (usually bad) consequences of good intentions.

If they yearn to be free of oppression, why do they run to Sharia law?

Qadafi was a murderous thug for 30 years, why did it become a priority to oust him only five months after he started switching his currency to a gold standard, requiring us to buy oil in gold rather than dollars. You're delusional if you think any of this is to promote freedom. It's to protect the oil and defense industry.

Oppression is in the eye of the beholder. One man's freedome fighter is another man's (or woman's) oppressor. If we're going to use the ruler of a country being a asshole as a justification for war, they'd better start the draft back up and start conscripting all men under 65.
