Tell me what it's like

Hey there Arizona! I'm looking into places to move and settle, and am interested in your state!!

No inner city locations please, I prefer right outside the buzz, 30 minutes -/+ to a main hot spot maybe? What cities do you enjoy living in? How is the scene there? Any "don't bother" places I should cross off my list? Property values? Available and desirable property? Whats the weather like? (peak winter/summer temps), I garden and would like to maintain veggies and such! Just sending out probes and seeing what the local wildlife thinks of their digs.. So... Rep your city!

Any info will help narrow my search and focus research, so please feel free to input! I will be visiting the top few places before this time next year in order to get a feel and make a solid choice, so I look forward to finding new play grounds soon!

Thanks in advance, stay safe and have fun! Calista Syn.

Welcome! DallasRain is spot on as to Tempe/Scottsdale/Mesa area. I am bummed because I am closer to central Phoenix and all the best providers seem to be out in the East Valley, but it makes sense. Gardening is tough, especially in the summer, but it can be done with the right plants and enough time and water. The soil here is terrible, though. For a good 30 days or so in the summer it will hover between 110-115 as the high and it won't get below 90 at night due to the heat island. Other than the hottest three months it ranges from tolerable to lovely.
Thanks guys! I'm finding it very difficult to get the kind of info I want from google searches. Mesa was one of the places I was looking at as a matter of fact Dallas! Tom, your input was invaluable, thank you! I think I need to look for more median temps, I love the heat but god damn thats high! I already gripe about the 100's here, I can't imagine trying to make to to my car without sweating in 115.

Thanks for the hospitality!

But it is a dry heat which is somewhat different than the humidity fueled heat you are used to in Biloxi. You should make a trip out there for a few days in July/August to see the difference. I was pleasently surprised the first time I went to Scottsdale in the middle of the summer that it actually felt cooler than where I live in West Texas even thought the temperature reading was 15 degrees higher in Scottsdale at the time.
Scottsdale is nice. It's so dry there, though. You can seriously feel the moisture evaporating from your skin.

But scary when there are the sand storm or the THUNDER or the rapid changes of the weather in winter months. But I love the desert. I don't think the out door gardening would be good because, it will be too hot and dry nothing will survived.
Now, I think you can get a green house that have the control temp to be a bit cooler and water mist.. Most of homes in this area are encouraging to have a "DESERT Landscape" to conserved water by using rock and cactuses. No green grass. Except they have a beautiful golf courses and resort area that they maintaining.

Look on city website they should have info that you need. Go to AAA offices and pick up a book about AZ, get a map, circle the area you want to check. Craiglist also have apt/condo/home listing for rental or purchase. Find out about the cost of living in AZ is good planning before the move because, this is a major move. But can be a rewarding and a place you can call home. Good luck!

lots of great bars in Tempe/Mesa & Chandler! with awesome live music

I used to go listen to a band called "sweaty"...don't know if they are still around
And it's 6 Hrs drive to LAX or just fly at reasonable cost ON "#1"Airlines to many destinations. I love PHX Sky harbors many NONSTOP service to go anywhere.
You guys need to consider the hot days in PHX like cold snowy days in other places, and as a bonus you don't shovel heat. Many homes (probably most) have pools. The other 10 months of the year are fantasic!!!
