Well first some free info.

Hosting cost less then 10.00 a month.

There are several hundreds of default templates which can work for most sites.

0.00

Most free plug-ins will also work to give a custom advantage.
0.00

So were does the cost go?

Content for starters, but one shouldn't spend more than ones budget allows.

What is a time frame for getting a site up and online?
24/48hrs

Domain Names are around 1.00 to 40.00 /yr

Are site easy to manage?
Yes and no
It will really depend on how much time you are willing to learn a few steps to not only allow you total control but to keep things fresh and exciting for your fans. But yes you should over come any fears of technology. If you can tweet you can manage the basics of a customer site.

Sound tough, well its not.

One last free advice:
if you just starting as it can always be tweak(hence custom) you shouldn't really spend more than 400.00 as anything if you start on a small budget you can alway add a bonus to your webmaster for the great work in such a short time.

-just one more thing to remember
An existing bad site, yes it can be fixed, but sometimes it cheaper to start from scratch instead of fixing a badly coded site. (An no squarespace is very limited some things might look good but you will reach limits quickly in feature you might want.)

Ok well there a free consult. But like everyone here we all like to make some money.

Very last thing if you do your own hosting you don't have to deal with your fans getting overwhelmed by spam ads and links.

Thanks for writing and sharing such an in-depth and informative post with the community.

Some of the 'webmasters' offering their services on here have truly terrible sites for their posted rates lol.

A few months ago I made and hosted a website for a trade with a visiting provider that didn't pan through. Then more recently I was willing to do a $150 and trade + references to potential clients with a local provider but she ended up stealing 5 hours of my time editing and formatting her messy website.

At least now I know how terrible of a host godaddy truly is and to have a contract or partial payment upfront.

Point blank, if you're charging 200-300 per hour for your time, there's really little to no excuse for using the freebie template sites. Invest in a well laid out website. Once you have your website built, the only costs are in the hosting and occasional updates assuming you cannot just update it yourself.

There are some great, reputable webmasters here who advertise their services for 400-600 for a full function website with mobile optimization.

I am glad you found it useful. Yes there are lots of options out there. One should have to spend a lot to get started or even maintain a good site. But like anything if a provider is willing to put the time into keep up with all the posts and ads, it not that far to go a little further keeping the brand looking fun for clients and fans.

Don't get me wrong some customer project do come at a higher prices. Also don't be fooled here sample this was not a veda design. Why is that? because it was our design and short of one conversion from HTML5 to PHP this design and art was still custom designed for her by us. It actually still host a video we did for the site too. It is designed to be pretty flexible to update in real time, but at the initial project time that was not as big a factor. So after time things get lost in the function of the site, but if it does the job then why change it, which it been there for many years now.
