A truly gifted author, Anne Rice, passed away overnight last night due to complications from a stroke. Her son posted an update to twitter. She was 80.

I know a lot of you are voracious readers, so you'll know her for all of her incredible books such as Interview With The Vampire, Prince Lestat, The Wolves of Midwinter, the Tale of the Body Theif... full list is here

What an incredible author. Her vampire stories set the bar high. Such a mind and a knack for detail. I'll have to dig out a few of her books to read in memory.

What was your favorite book by Anne Rice? When did you discover her?

I didn't discover her until my early 20's, but when I did finally discover her I went on a hunt and read like 4 of her books in a row.
Read the obit in the TIMES yesterday...I'm a Dead White Males kinda guy so, no, I have never read her, but--I well remember her celebrity in the Eighties as a result of INTERVIEW. At that time the HIV/AIDS outbreak was the biggest health story. Did she write the vampire story as allegory?

She actually did, she mentioned that in a few interviews. She's not necessarily one of my all time favorites but she was such a benchmark for her genre (non-fiction, mythology) that I have a few of her books just because.

Interview
Not only was it excellent, it opened a whole new genre subset that not only then included more of her work, but other authors also jumped into that subset as well.
