2G cell phone service shutdown

I'm trying to get back into hobbying as I've been out for a while. Recently I pulled out the hobby flip phone expecting to be able to buy a card and add time to the phone, only to find out that there's no 2G service available. What I have learned is that carriers are shutting down 2G service, but not all at once. The end of this year will see most 2G services gone, and likely curtailed before the actual cutoff. The only option I see is replacing a perfectly usable phone with yet another phone.

Why does this matter? There are likely other hobbyists out there like myself who are still using 2G phones for hobby purposes. Sure I have a smart phone for real life, but for hobby purposes I don't need that.

If you find your old hobby phone is showing no service, that's probably why.
It's not that big of a deal. Just buy a new hobby phone from Walmart or a store you usually shop at. They are cheap and inexpensive.

3G service is going away, too. We need to stop raising our fist against technological progress, and embrace 4G, at least.

And by the way, Goodwill doesn't want your Black and White, cathode ray tube, 80 pound television, LOL
