Anyone have a favorite Memphis restaurant? Will be staying in the Beale Street area and while there is a wide selection in that area it looks like most focus on ribs and BBQ. While this is fine for a couple of meals, would like some variety during my three days there.
I'm no expert on Memphis, but I've had a few meals there. Here are my recommendations.
The Rendezvous is a classic. The definitive Memphis style ribs. Great atmosphere.
Central BBQ is also very, very good. Nothing like the atmosphere or history of The Rendezvous, but killer ribs, none the less.
Cozy Corner for the BBQ Cornish Game Hen. The best $10 or $11 you can spend for a bird. If you've got any kind of appetite, finish off the meal with a sliced pork sandwich. Don't worry about the neighborhood, you'll be fine!
For burgers, try Huey's, a local chain. Local Gastropub is OK to pretty good. Sweetgrass is very good regional American fare.
I haven't been in Memphis since it opened, but I hear great things about Hog and Hominy.
