Why is Google The Exit Link Of Choice?

I've noticed that a great number of companion websites use google as their Exit link of choice.

Is there are particular reason why?

Its innocent. If someone has to hit the exit quick, looking at a Google page is not going to spark any awkward questions.

In addition to PJ comments...

The google home page is clean & loads quickly.

And it's the most commonly used search engine, so using it send you to a site that more likely than not, most people do actually use in their private or work life.
Also linking to something generic keeps you invisible to other eyes. If the exit link goes to your favorite restaurant, the link to your site will show up on their traffic report.
...makes sense.

Thank you all for replying.

If you're ever in need of "escaping" a web page quickly, Alt-Home takes you to your home page, Ctrl-T takes you to a new tab, or you can click one of the links in your bookmarks toolbar at the top of the browser.

Try to look nonchalant and keep working on something for at least a little while as you start taking to the intruder.
I did not know that. Very quick - Alt-Home ;-)
