What is your definition of a lefty.

Recently golferguy55 described me as a “rabid lefty”.

I’m not even sure what he means by that. I would be interested in hearing how others would describe the term lefty, much less rabid lefty.

Symbols of a rabid lefty are photos of the homeless camps in Los Angeles and SF, all supposedly caused by the extreme positions and tolerance of the left. Add the photos of illegal immigrants trying to enter the USA on trains is another example. Both supposedly results of the rabid left.



Symbols of the rabid right would be extreme intolerance such as the abortion issue, and non stop need to impose their own beliefs on all other individuals.

They believe in general the USA should not become involved in foreign wars except as a peacemaker, with exceptions like World War II. They believe in criminal justice reform, especially for the poor and disadvantaged. They believe America should welcome immigrants regardless of their skills and education. I mostly agree with rabid lefties on these points, except immigration.

On economic issues, rabid lefties look for more state control and bigger government.They are not afraid of socialism. They want more and larger social welfare programs. Universal health care, universal support for childcare, a minimum income for all, and free university education for all are examples. Many are not concerned with deficit spending and the national debt. Most want to tax the rich and corporations at very high rates, while operating under the misconception that they won’t have to jack up taxes sky high on the middle class to fund their objectives. They support measures related to the environment, climate, safety and public health that don’t make sense based on the costs and benefits. Some believe the rabid lefty’s heart is in the right place, but he would muck up the economy and make America a much less prosperous place if he got his way.

You are not a rabid lefty. You are a mainstream Democrat. Your views on Ukraine, Israel, socialism and other points disqualify you from the rabid lefty category.

I dont know what the definition is. But it bothers me that people have made up terms like these to be insults. We have rabid lefties and lunatic righties. Both kinds of terms are just used to cause more division. Left and Right used to be legit ways to help understand someone's views. Now they are used by both sides to attack.

The only real difference between people of any political stripe is this.

There are those of us who are aware of humanities shortcomings, both in themselves and in others that they would never consent to being governed by the mob. They understand that humans choose evil as oft they choose good, therefor the government that governs least, governs best. They recognize that all men are tempted by power and so all governing institutions must be restricted in some manner. Finally they believe that our rights come from our Creator, not other men and so other men cannot take them from us but by force.

The other half of us believes that man can be perfected, if only we try the right policy, collect more taxes, and regulate the populace better. They and their like minded authoritarians believe they are smarter than the rest of us and they should therefor be given rule over the populace to do with their policies as they believe best regardless of the impact to the average citizen. They are arrogant and entitled and find no tradition worth saving, and no honor in their nations accomplishments.

I would clarify, at least they way I see it, that when I say "Lefty", it is the same as "Wokey" or "Wokester", i.e. wokeism. As such, Leftist = Wokester. In a serendipitous article, both (the same) are defined succinctly.

Well, it looks like Jordan Peterson has finally cracked the code on “wokeness.” Based on his research, we now have insight into the type of person who easily succumbs to this twisted and warped way of thinking.

The truth is, leftist tactics are pretty slick—they love to play word games. They throw around phrases like “Across state lines,” “My Body, My Choice,” and “No Human is Illegal” that all sound really good but are just verbal tricks designed to pull the wool over your eyes. These clever catchphrases easily snag folks who don’t dig deeper into what they’re actually hearing. See, the richer and more vast your vocabulary, the better you can sort through smokescreens and propaganda and recognize when words are being twisted to fool you. For example, slogans like “silence is violence” and “words are violence” try to stretch the meaning of actual “violence” to include just about anything, including what you say or don’t say. But here’s the thing: folks who really get the true meaning of words won’t fall for this trick. They know violence involves physical force, not just speaking up or keeping quiet. So, these catchphrases, which try to make everyday actions seem dangerous, just don’t stick with people who understand how language is being manipulated. But many do fall for it, and that’s why this obsession with reshaping language to suit their agenda is a common strategy on the left.

Wokeness breaks everything down into simple terms of good or bad — <Demographic 1> = good, <Demographic 2> = bad; men = bad, women = good; and anything like patriarchy or racism = super duper bad. This simplicity only works for people who lack verbal smarts. These low-IQ, often criminal-minded people can only understand simple slogans and mental models, and the communist left is all too happy to supply them.

This leads to two additional problems. First, there’s confirmation bias, which is living in your own personal echo chamber. It means you ignore any facts or opinions that challenge your beliefs and only pay attention to those that support what you already think. Second, there’s a kind of fear, or cowardice, involved. It’s the fear of facing anything that might truly challenge or threaten your views. So, instead of confronting or considering different perspectives, people shut down and stick to their comfort zones.

Another trick the left uses to control the story is by throwing together confusing word salads. Take the gender confusion debate—it’s just a tangled mess of words that skirts around actual science and refuses to take any real responsibility. A person of modest intelligence simply doesn’t have the brainpower to discern that these word salads have no real meaning; they are easily bamboozled. The left-wing thought leaders are word artists who spin their words in the worst possible way, which ultimately hampers the ability of many of the simpler leftists to think clearly and critically....

...So, basically, wokeness is for a combination of dummies and those led by the emotions...
