Moving to Fort Lee

I have to move to fort lee for work.
Is Petersburg a bad city to live in? A lot of crime? What about the other surrounding cities like colonial heights or Hopewell?

Am I better off just living on post in fort lee? But then if I do that then it’s hard to have a “guest” over my place (if you catch my drift).
