It has been my experience that sxsw does not bring a significant uptick of business. Seems to me, everyone is so busy on the movie and music trail they do not find time to hobby. So all you locals who have been around for this before, do you agree or is it a busy time for you with all these out of town folks flooding in the next 10 days? Personally I do not do the movie or interactive part of sxsw, only the music and then only the free daytime parties and shows. In the past I thought it would get busy and all the visitors would make the phones ring but historically that has not been the case. who here in our community is doing sxsw? movies? music? both? is there a segment of our hobby that gets extra busy during sxsw? who leaves town during this time to escape the crowds? who takes off from work and parties with hoards of visitors? my general plan is party all afternoon next week at free events starting about wed. I do not do the night time events that you need a badge/wrist band for. I wonder if this year there will be a flood of hobbyists from out of town sniffing around here? So traveler, if that is you, speak up and say howdy here. My general feeling s sxsw slows down my appointments here so I just plan on a slow week and party my ass off watching new bands and enjoying the festival and I just plan for a slow week. let's talk about the biggest music festival in the US and how it impacts our hobby.
SXSW is a young persons game, not surprising you would not notice an upswing.
Bet 21 yo traveling spinners that do full service kill.
There's probably too much free stuff for guys to call a provider.
I’m hoping to find me some of that free stuff
Business probably slows down for providers who are not FS, the visitors are wanting to spend their money on an American provider who is attractive and is going to fully satisfy them. I've volunteered for the SXSW before and there are ALL ages who come.
Most of the people I met were from other countries & states. WHo the hell wants to go back to their home and tell their friends "Yeah I went to Austin and got a massage"??? Nope they wanna go home saying I went to a bad ass city and fucked a fine ass American girl.
Look at all of the "visiting" providers listed on here and on P411.
Some "visiting" providers are asking $1K and up an hour - obviously aiming for the Elon Musk niche. Good luck with that!
I avoid Austin like the plague except when I absolutely, positively have to go there on business. I stay at least 2 - 3 Texas counties away during SXSW. Too much GPS during "normal" times (if there ever is a "normal" time in Austin), off the scale GPS during SXSW.
I thank you for your candid observations - I often thought the same thing - SXSW is for latte sipping indeterminate gender hipsters that walk through intersections in their skinny jeans with their face in their cell phone.
Too many young providers with too much (prohibited topic) in their bloodstreams thinking they're going to make their year's income in the 10 days of SXSW.
I'll be glad when it's over - until then, I will circumnavigate downtown by liberal use of the SH-130 Toll road -
Just my $0.02.
Just another event that makes Austin the sewer pit of Texas..
For providers it can be very hit or miss.

It's going to bring a lot of "potentials" who lack the references. Most of which who will not have a clue about anything south of the river.
