need some input from the ladies

Going back to school next semester and a college student always needs extra money so I had an idea. Is there a market for a photographer, not a professional but at very reasonable prices and open to barter shall we say.

Honestly, no.
It's the holidays. I am sure most ladies would rather have cash than pics. If you don't have the funds, this isn't the "hobby" to be in. IJS.
At least set up a site with samples of your work, rates, etc. Would you see a provider who did not post pics, menu, or rates?

If you have some talent you might get some takers but it will be hard to get a straight up swap. You might get some discount offers though if your really good.

I actually DON'T want to trade. I want MONEY for my freaking work. It's just the getting my foot in the door part.

Equipment costs too much money to give shit away. I didn't inherit this stuff. I went out and bought it, and 'bargaining' is NOT the way I want to go about.

The reason why you're getting such a negative response is because a LOT of men on here will "offer" to do pictures and well, they will claim to be a photographer but what they actually are (and there is nothing wrong with this) are amateurs who just want to take pictures for a free appointment.

When I was new, several men contacted me to "help" with my presentation and with my pictures and God only knows what else.

There was one person, and I'm using his picture as my avatar right now, who truly had the chops to take wonderful pictures. He wasn't an amateur although he considered himself such.

He's the exception and I'm so glad that we met. However, the others?

Really, women don't wish to do this type of trade. Anyone can point and shoot.

Just my thoughts. Sorry to be rather negative like the others. I've just had some really bad experiences with taking pictures, even with the professionals.

Escorts are always getting screwed over by others, especially with "services," because others feel that they can get away with it since we're often not even considered human, much less worthy of a job well done by others.

Anyway, my thoughts, only.

Good luck with school!!!

Sincerely,
Elisabeth

I'm more than willing to do some free bees when I move to the area to establish my credibility. Honestly I probably could use the cash more, classic poor college student, but I'm a straight male and I know myself well enough to know I would be tempted LOL. I think I threat the ladies as human beings, I see them that way. Ladies ask Arianna Love or Melannie Star, haven't seen her in awhile though and I'm not that memorable to stand out in the pack of other guys on here so neither may actually remember.

I'm sorry to hear about ladies who've been screwed over, but what ever happened to giving people a chance and not condemning them based on the actions of others?

I've offered freebies, to no avail. Too many of these ladies would rather WAIT IN LINE and pay money rather than to try with a new guy. That's understandable, too, but I'm not a new hobbyist. I've been on this board for 5 years and I am prepared to GUARANTEE my work.

I'll let her post the pictures. I can't sell them. Who would WANT to buy someone else's pictures? No one, that I could think of. All the unused pics, I delete them. Why would I keep them, to jack off to? Shit. There's FREE PORN for that. FREE...ACTION...PORN. After the shoot, your pics MEAN NOTHING TO ME (meaning I'm not going to keep them to jack off to), other than to say, yes, I know how to shoot provider showcase pictures.

And just like other photographers, I'd put my 'stamp' on a couple pictures, just so everyone knows who took them.

Congrats to DDBD, Megan, Freckles, and anyone else who has an audience, because it seems that most providers will WAIT MONTHS to PAY YOU to take theirs when I, and maybe even other guys, can do the same thing... right now, cheaper (at the moment).

I will be the first to admit that this was way harder to get into than I imagined. I look all over and see showcases that are full of out of focus pictures, overexposed, underexposed, lacking content, not quite right images that beg for professional help. I thought it was a window for opportunity. I am mistaken, apparently.

I didn't spend a shitload of money on professional classes and equipment so I can be a slick, cheap car salesman in a polyester suit of a photographer. Yeah, I'm a TINY bit pissed because everyone's mindset is defaulting to the sleaze ball, 'look what I found in my grandpa's basement' picture taker looking for a free blow job. I'm so NOT that guy right now.

Few things are more controversial here than photography. Just a point of clarification, even if you charge "reasonable rates" that, according to the IRS and the general definition does make you a "professional". I think the PPA definition is (or a least was) making over half your income from photography.

It's a great hobby, but I've never met a professional photographer, including one in my family, who was happy. To make a living means long hours, and shooting things or people you don't necessarily like shooting. As for the ones who want to make a living as "artists" instead of "artisans" there is easily as much truth in the old adage of "starving artist" as "starving student".

Good luck with both of your ventures. But, as unsolicited advice, if you're going to charge, then charge and post a rate and examples.

Examples of WHAT, a frog sitting on a fence post? A sunset?

I have pictures of many things, but they don't prove that I or anyone looking to get started can take a quality picture of a scantily clad woman and make it look all glamorous and pristine. I'm SURE i could do it, I'm confident as hell that I could, but I don't want to charge, have the pictures not come out as expected, and then she feels cheated out of her money.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought it would make more sense to offer a couple of freebies to see how things went before possibly building a list of disgruntled customers.

Ladies, would you feel better about a photo shoot if I threw a price tag on it, over a free one...completely free, where worst case, the only thing lost is time?
