In saddling horses there is a part called a 'flank cinch' that must be fairly tight if the saddle is to be prevented from spinning loose and putting the saddle on the underbelly of the horse.
While this item presents an interesting idea. I think it's primary functionality would be lacking unless it was cinched really tight. Making it terribly uncomfortable.
