Info on driving over to juarez
Never drove to Juarez. What do I need? Mexican insurance? A permit of some type? Do i just drive my car over with my Texas insurance and registration, nothing else needed? Is there a fee?
probably your US insurance will not cover you over there, u might want to get one for mexico, there are usually a couple of places near the bridges that sell them. no guns or ammo whatsoever unless you want to spend some years in a mexican prison. as far as that u dont need anything to cross into mexico but you do need a passport or a crossing card to come back into the US
$500 for Mexican auto insurance. You get 450 back on your way out. But make sure you get it or you will be a target.
Most insurance companies will cover you or you might get a rider added for only a few dollars. Mine is good for up to 30 days/yr in Mexico and I go for a day or 2 every month or 2. Note that if going past the border towns (I think >50km from border), you will need to purchase a trip permit from Mexico. My understanding is that there is a roadblock at this point on roads leading away from the border checking for this permit.
What you need is your head examined. I have done it, but not in a long time, and it was risky then. Unless you have some real need for a vehicle over there, much easier and safer to walk across. No jewelry, just d/l, c/c & maybe some cash.
My ins covers me there...i dont think its so bad, but thats just me...been to several incalls in dallas way scarier than going to chaude...
I used to live in El Paso and have been to Juarez countless times, but not in many years. It has been listed as one of the ten most dangerous cities to travel to in the world for the last three years. Many of the locals have stopped going across. Not only because of the drug cartels, but because the police are corrupt, as well. I wouldn't trust my insurance to be worth the paper it was printed on if I took a car over. When I drove, I took a rental. I may be reckless, but I'm not crazy.
I walk over all the time. Wasn't looking to play over there, but wanted to do a little shopping, so driving vs walking would have been beneficial. I have to check with my insurance, see if they cover me there.
sheesh people...juarez is not all that bad anymore...its fine to go over there...my insurance covers 25 miles into juarez...just make sure that your insurance does too...
I actually feel safer there now than 15 years ago....but that's just me, maybe I just don't give a shit anymore
