Michael Jordan gambles or gambled on just about everything. Warren Buffet has huge amounts of money he will never use, yet continues to enjoy making investment bets when he is 90 years old.
So it's not about obtaining money.
It has to be the satisfaction that comes from thinking you were able to pick a winner.
But even that is a thin reason, since many of these are random events.
