It was harder to connect for both parties in the PFPtransaction. I didn't get out to play back then like I do now, but The Yellow Pages were a major resource in larger cities— mostly for agency related contacts. The "Massage Parlor" dodge worked for a while in the '80s (Is Studio 5806 still in business in Houston?).

Most providers are too young t(his isa good thing) to remember how it was in the 80s-90s. As late as the 1970s, there were at least two genuine brothels still open in Lagrange Texas . . .they made a movie and Broadway show about "The Chicken Ranch". I think the predictor to ASPD began about 1995 (someone correct me please). I didn,t get on board with Amber's ASPD till 2004 or so.

I do remember that here in Houston TX in the 1990s, there was a strong and very open SW scene on South Main near The Medical Center—and the Montrose area was a hotbed of openly gay cruising.
ASPD and now ECCIE have given everyone a safer and relatively secure way to connect ,with fewer unknowns.
One good resource was massage parlors and strip clubs....meet and greet bcd or for a few dances and its a invitation to something new

YP always had good ads. I remember back then i was looking up call girls, escorts, etc... Those were actual titles in yellow pages. my have times gotten convenient and seclusive.

Most salesmen with expense accounts had little black books. If you were one of those fortunate enough to make vendor decisions, you could always get free pussy.

In a strange town the yellow pages were also a good source of info, but most of the time the escort pages were missing.
They probably used the back section of the newspaper. In larger cities, flyers were handed out, and still are handed out. Providers used paper to advertise, now it's all online.

I started hobbying in the early 70's. Most "ads" were in the newspaper or weekly city ad papers. Strip clubs and massage parlars were often the main source for finding a provider. Then there was the "streets". In my home town a "SW" was $3 for a hj and $5 for 50/50.
Thoooose were the days...

In the SF Weekly in 2000. Not before the internet, but before I figured out I could use it for this. LOL

I knew about agencies using the YP and strippers in club.
I can't remeber where but someone mentioned going back to the old way and I'm like "wtf is the old way?"
