Visiting Orange & Sherman Oaks...Recommendations?

I am visiting LA in August and have been told to try Orange and Sherman Oaks. Does anyone have any favorite hotels for an incall that they would recommend? Also, food recommendations would be greatly appreciated as well. This is my first visit, and although brief, I would like to experience a wee bit of what they have to offer. Looking to whet my appetite a bit to convince me to come back again.
