Clearing Bookmarks in Safari

The Safari Browser on my iPhone5 has bookmarks for ECCIE that I can't remove. I go to Settings, then Safari, then Clear Browser History, and I get no indication that history has cleared, and the Bookmarks are still there.

Eventually after a few Google searches found the problem was some fat-fingered web Reading List items that I was able to delete with a left-swipe.

Google....it always has the answer to everything.
