How do you get a reference?

Should I ask the provider I saw, or is there a different process? Maybe I'm missing this because I use the mobile site?

You should always ask the provider that you saw if it is okay to use her as a reference. If she says its ok then you give her contact information (link to showcase and email or phone if publicly posted) along with some info about yourself to the new provider your trying to see. The providers will talk to each other privately for verification.
