When did you start the hobby?

I've been on this site for a while now, and haven't partaken in the hobby yet. I've made a couple of soft inquiries, but haven't followed through. The couple of providers I talked to were both very courteous and I am grateful for that.

My question is, what was it like when you finally decided to actually follow through? Who was your first provider?
