What to do, where to eat in KC?

What are some fun/interesting things to in KC?
When I visit a new city I love eating at different restaurants or bars (no chains).
I've been told KC is known for a good steak and jazz music
How is the shopping? Strips clubs? Casinos?
I'm excited can you tell?

If Jazz is your thing you have to visit the historical 18th and vine district. The American Jazz museum is there and bunch of clubs that play music. Right there too is the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which is a treat to visit for baseball fans.

It's law if you visit KC you have to eat BBQ. Sorry it's the law. KC Joe's, Fiorella's Jack Stack, Q39 would be my list of best to start.

I like the Hollywood Casino on the Kansas side. Not because it's the best, it's just the closest for me. But it's not bad.

Green Lady Lounge downtown is a good spot for jazz and a fun place to have a drink. Anton's (also downtown) is probably serving the best steak in the city in my opinion. If you stay anywhere in the midtown area (downtown, Westport, Plaza) you'll be a 10 minute drive or Uber to lots of great destinations and independently owned restaurants. Bilbo is right though. They won't stamp your passport if you don't ea t BBQ. Gates and Bryant's are the classics.

It's a shopping, restaurant and hotel district.
Plaza is centrally located so handy to everyone.
Hotel prices are a tad up there though.
The Holiday Inn gets a label of: run down so stay elsewhere.
There's perhaps a dozen other hotels.
Note that hotel security is evident. However, discrete folks will appreciate that.

The casino's here are their own destinations. At a couple, discrete folks have no problems. However, Dallas is correct about the Argosy.

Up by airport there's perhaps 2 dozen hotels, also the Zona Rosa shopping restaurant district. I've picked up a fair amount of gifts for friends at the various women's clothing stores there.
Here's Zona's website.

Btw, BBQ is the thing here. Q39 is the king (this will start a war on this thread), they just opened their second location.
And, Bart, BBQ in KC is an ultimate priority.

Haha, I'll cop to that.
Majestic Steak house...downtown...good steak and live jazz...nice funky cool atmosphere. Not your cookie cutter type place.

The Plaza is awesome for everything. Most of the hotels are awesome, great shopping, and just about every kind of food and price point that you could want. Have a great trip!

Thanks for this info! I'll be in town later this week and want to explore a little more this second trip.

So, shopping at the plaza, love shopping! lol, and some good suggestions for places to eat and what else do I need to see or do while in town?
