Things that breathe

There is a video circulating of a Florida city council meeting where people are debating wearing masks. Some of it is quite funny. One lady in particular has a curious quote, "I don't wear a mask for the same reason I don't wear underwear. Things got to breathe." So my question to the providers is, do "things" have to breathe?
