Russia can join NATO

Russia has always put up the straw man of concern about being invaded from the west.

Some truth to that, but it doesn't give a proper reason for gobbling up independent countries.

If Russia joined NATO, then this concern would go away. They would not have to worry about a Ukraine invasion.

North Polar Region Treaty Organization
Canada, US, Greenland, Norway.

Allows the US and Russia to gobble up leftovers (whose gonna get east Ukraine? The US?)

Regarding Russia and its aversion to NATO . . . .

I am a Child of the Coldest part of the Cold War. I helped my father build a "Bomb Shelter" in our basement back in the 1960s.

At that time, The West was faced with a unified NATO-like allied group of communist countries dubbed The Warsaw Pact. Today, most of these countries have come over to The West and have joined NATO.

With the dissolution of The Soviet Union in the late 1980s, the US joined an agreement to secure Ukraine's independence if they would surrender the nuclear weapons left by the defunct USSR. They did but we didn't.

We have abdicated our responsibility to that agreement and Russia now controls over 20% of what was Ukraine before 2014. I see no reason why they can't have the rest of their country back now.

I support Ukraine becoming a NATO member.

I do not support Russia joining NATO.

Or mabe I just didn't get the joke in the OP.

As odd as it sounds, part joke, part out of the box, that would solve Russian stated security issues.

But I was assigned 5 points for posting the photo of the boat, so I have lost interest in the thread.

Points? OICH!

Back to the topic at hand; Russia Errope and expanding NATO.

And yet . . .if Russia was a NATO member, wouldn't that threaten both Ukraine and China?

Of course, Ukraine could be annexed by Moldova, which would make it a de facto NATO member, leaving only the Asian nations like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan (OK, most all the 'Stans), Georgia, Mongolia and China to feel threatened.
