Haven't been to these places all that often, but I have noticed in my past few visits that the use of coins seems to be going out of fashion. That would be fine with me, if only the waitress would round the amount of my change up rather than down. Of course, that hasn't happened so far. Before the local Hooter's closed I would respond to the staff's shortchanging by withholding the gratuity entirely, but I'm now gravitating toward the more moderate policy of "Whatever you do to my change, I will do to your tip." Does this approach sound fair? Or feasible over the long term?
Don't cheat the server's tip money due to the restaurant's policy. It's not the server's fault. Tips are how they survive.
