Mamdani's Madness: Ex-Con Robber Now Tapped for NYC Justice Gig
5:07 PM on December 08, 2025

Ever since "Democratic socialist" (feel free to read that as "communist") Zohran Mamdani was elected to become the next Mayor of New York City, the news media surrounding him have been replete with headlines that make one do a startled double-take. But the latest in the saga isn't just a head-scratcher; it's bat-guano crazy. The incoming resident of Gracie Mansion is putting together a team to work on criminal justice issues, and one of Mayor-elect Mamdani's choices for that team is an ex-con "rapper" who served 7 years for armed robbery.

Setting the fox to guard the henhouse, perhaps? Or setting the fox to catch other foxes? That remains to be seen.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has picked a controversial rapper who did seven years in state prison for armed robbery to advise him on the criminal justice system.

Mysonne Linen, 49, a Bronx convict-turned-activist who was found guilty of two felony heists in the late 1990s, was appointed by the democratic socialist to sit on a “criminal legal system” committee for his transition team as he prepares for the move to City Hall next month.

“This is a testament to our decades of work advocating on behalf of black and brown communities and our expertise in gun violence prevention, legislative advocacy and criminal justice reform,” Linen wrote on Instagram last month. “We are building something different.”

Oh, it's different; that much is certain. Linen insists he's innocent of the crime he was convicted of and sentenced for, but prisons are full of convicts who maintain they are innocent.

Linen was a promising young rapper when he was convicted in 1999 for being part of a crew that robbed two cab drivers in the Bronx, the New York Daily News reported at the time.

The conviction came just as Linen’s debut album was due for release by Def Jam Recordings.

Bronx prosecutors said his crew pulled off the June 8, 1997, robbery of taxi driver Joseph Exiri, and the March 31, 1998, gunpoint theft from cabbie Francisco Monsanto, according to the News.

Linen, who faced up to 25 years behind bars, continued to deny he was involved and rebranded himself as a community activist following his release from state prison.

It's a near-certainty that this is a politically motivated appointment, not a pragmatic one.

Mamdani Announces What One of His First Initiatives As Mayor Will Be - It's a Preview of Things to Come

However, there may be an upside. Earlier, I mentioned "setting the fox to catch other foxes." There could well be an unwitting "to catch a thief" result from all this. If you're looking to deal with urban crime, would it be the worst idea to have someone on the team who has firsthand experience?

But, then, Linen is claiming to have expertise in something that doesn't exist: "gun violence." Zohran Mamdani's not in office yet, but people around him are already blaming the sword for the hand that wields it. And we've had an eight-year national experience with one former "community organizer," and it seems to me that "community activists" are cut from much the same cloth. So, no, I think we're back to pandering.

New York is, I'm afraid, headed for some dire times. If you're living in the Big Apple, and if you possess the means to get out, do it now; best to get while the getting's good, and it's as good now as it's going to get.

Editor’s Note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed Democratic Socialist (communist) and on January 1st will become the next mayor of New York City.

One of the Google search results is a NY Post article that additionally mention some of Mamdani's other controversial appointment choices

Again, for the umpteenth time, I ask why Mamdani’s appointments, words, etc., mean Jack shit to you?

Do you live in NYC? Do you vote in that election? Sure seems to be that you believe this is some kind of official position requiring approval or confirmation.you should work on your reading skills. That is if there are any books on the shelves.

Where was your outrage when Trump pardoned convicted drug traffickers, politicians charged with bribery or appointed an affirmed and vocal science denier to run HHS?

Until you square that hypocrisy, you self righteous MAGAdoodles got no leg to stand on.

I get why you all focus on the commie part. Getting input from some of the chief stakeholders in a system you're considering reforming makes too much sense.

Mamdani is not a communist. "Democratic socialist" and "commie" aren't interchangeable in terms of ideology.

Pejoratives, on the other hand, are imminently interchangeable.

It's the other C word.
Again your confirmation basis overrules any logical thoughts...
Anytime that communism is discussed you use the cover of Democrat socialist to cover your failed ideology...THAT DOESN'T WORK ANYWHERE!!
I understand you can't help yourself by admitting the reality of it. You HAVE to defend your ideology at all costs...it's a sad situation to be in.

The reason to focus there in this thread, besides posters’ innate proclivity, is that getting input from ex-cons on justice reform makes perfect sense.

We now return you to your dread of anyone but the most strident capitalists.
