Tick. Tick. Tick........

From the folks at Powerlineblog.com:

America’s Debt Bomb: Worse Than Europe’s

It has been said many times in recent months that we aren’t Greece. Now it will start to be said that we aren’t Spain. Both propositions are certainly true. (For one thing, Spain elected its socialist government in 2004, thus getting a head start on us.) But if we compare America’s debt crisis to Europe’s as a whole, how do we stack up?
The Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee did the math and produced this graphic, which shows that the U.S. is now deeper in debt than the entire Eurozone, plus the United Kingdom. (The Democrats on the committee are too busy dodging their legal obligation to come up with a budget to produce anything.):

The populations of the two entities are almost exactly the same, so the U.S. debt is larger on a per capita basis, too. Really, is it going too far to ask how an administration that put the U.S. in such a deep hole can have the temerity to seek re-election?
And Gov. Christi is about right on this one.............

Deficit spending really is the biggest problem we have by far. If we don't get spending under control America is finished. The actions that are necessary to reign in government spending sufficiently to solve the problem are probably not politically possible. At the end of the day if the average person isn't willing to voluntarilly sacrifice social welfare benefits (entitlements) it's going to be impossible to balance the budget. It was never the intention of the founders that the people get to choose how much free stuff they get from the govenment.

All of the entitlement programs that are bankrupting us have one thing in common. They are all unconstitutional. The Constitution was designed to prevent the people from looting the treasury. We need to shut down every agency and every program that can not be Constitutionally supported. It's hard to put the genie back in the bottle. It may be impossible to return to the Constituion once it's been abandoned

The only way someone would not agree with Joe on this is if they have not seen the overwhelmingly powerful data that supports him.

It would be impossible to think anything else if they were properly informed.

What we need is a combo of tax increases and spending cuts over a long period of time as to not jolt the economy into another recession.

Kinda like what the real experts like Bowles-Simpson recommended , not what joe blow suggests on a hooker board.

To say wtf what we should not have done does nothing to get you out of the mess we are in. joe blow sounds like a nagging wife/backseat driver (the country has plenty of those), what the country needs a GPS that is nonpartasian.
Bowles Simspon is a solution; but not the only solution.

WTF: Instead of jumping all over JB, why don't you flush Obama down the toilet for not support the BS plan you love so much.....Joe didn't have anyting to do with BS going nowhere....that was all on Obama.

He clearly never had any intention of acting on there recommendations. It was just a political stunt.

We need to make major reductions in entitlement spending or the numbers just don't work. The real debt is the unfunded liabilities which are over 100 trillion dollars. That's the sum total of all the federal government's entitlement spending promises. Successfully dealing with that problem is going to require dramatic cuts in spending not reductions in the rates of increases.

Pretending to cut spending (reducing the rates of increases) and raising taxes is not the answer. Real cuts in spending and keeping taxes low in order stimulate growth is the answer.

SS is dead too if you listen to politicians.

but thats not the case

I said long ago we would have to pay for the inept government policies and rampant spending that took place a decade ago with higher taxes and serious spending cuts.

well, its later.
