hobby sim card

is it possible to use a prepaid sim card with a blackberry or do you have to have the data service and blackberry plan for it to work? i thought i'd use the same phone just switch sim's when i was in hobby mode but i'm thinking with at&t you have to have the full blackberry plan for a blackberry to work.

to my knowledge your phone should work with basic services. as i have a gophone sim that i use in my iphone for the very same purpose you speak of, Now i dont get all the pda functions with the sim switched and internet fees would be outrageous, but as far as calling folks i have no issues
