License Plate Cameras

Saw a thread on GBN that was talking about new cameras that use your license plate number to go fetch your address, name, etc. Apparently a number of states are allowing them to be placed around town and in police vehicles so they can track whoever, whenever. whereever.

I know the courts in NE wouldn't allow the catch a speeder cameras. Sure hope we can keep this newest Big Brother wrinkle out of NE.

How about you see someone on the street, store whatever. You take a picture and use face recognition software to find them on Facebook. Now you have a name address etc. Scary wouldn't you say?
They've been using them in KC for quite some time now. Its only a matter of time until Omaha starts using them, if they haven't already.
They have them just across the river in CB at certain intersections. I got a ticket from the damn things after going through an intersection when the light was still yellowish/pink. Fuckers.
The LJS had an article about this a few months ago, and these are already in use in NE. Lincoln PD and Omaha PD both have cars equipped with the cameras on the top. They claim they dont use Geo-tagging or use the data to compile profiles about the vehicles, but is has come out in other places that this is happening. Nebraska State Patrol has them as well, they are setting up a pass through between Lincoln and Omaha that will scan all traffic on I-80.
Colorado has them all over the state. Illinois is putting them in as we speak. They say they are for "weather and travel info" . As we say down where I come from, BULLBUTTER!

I'm a patriot. I served 27 years in the military, but I have to say, I'm not a fan of the Patriot Act. The reason is simple. It compromises everyone's civil liberties in the name of public safety and security. IMHO. I don't know yet how this latest intrusion will affect us, to what extent it will be used, or by whom. I'm afraid it will become increasingly invasive over time, and wonder if my grandson will ever know what it was like to be a US citizen who was not under the constant watchful eye (and wrapped in the socialistic, protective arms) of big brother.
I remember it wasn't long ago people laughed at me and called me a paranoid conspiracy theorist. Now I'm the one laughing. Unfortunately the punchline is on us all.
