Let us not forget Austin's ludicrous claim as the Self proclaimed "Live Music Capital" when in reality it is a big fat zero in regard to the Music Industry. Nothing of importance happens here aside from a couple of annual over hyped/priced and highly commercialized festivals.
If you're a working musician you'll have to travel away from Austin just to earn enough to pay your most basic bills. That's been the reality at least since I arrived here in the 90's.

In fact within the pro musician's community Austin is known as the country's biggest collection of professional amateurs.

How abut the general quality of service and high level of incompetence in Austin compared to other urban areas?

The first thing I noticed upon arriving here other than the lack of income potential for musicians was every single fucking "Professional" service related company does a half assed job and doesn't care because they have no competition to keep them on their toes.
From insurance companies to medical facilities to mechanics to AC repairmen and plumbers. I have lived all over the country and have never witnessed this degree of incompetence anywhere else.

With that being said I still love the people and the vibe of Austin more than anywhere else. Hipsters or no there is still far less superficial prejudice here than most places.
Nobody here gives a shit about where you live, who you know, what you drive or where you went to school.

It is the best city ever in my book.

The reason why services here are so bad is because no one here cares about work. They're all lazy slackers. Try eating at the old restaurants that have been here for decades like the Nighthawk or Dan's Hamburgers or El Rancho.....what aweful shit!!!!!!!! LOL. When I started doing construction work here the first thing I noticed was that the local contractors had the lowest standards and expectations of anywhere I'd ever been. They never even expected a slab foundation to be flat. They never expected a window or door to be straight or plumb. The buildings in this town are the worst anywhere, and I can't be the only person who's noticed that.

All any city or state or government can do is repeal a statute criminalizing something, or add an amendment to a state constitution declaring that such state, "shall pass no law....."

There are no cities which have "legalized" possession of substances illegal according to state statutes. The most they can do is instruct their police to have a policy and practice of overlooking the violations when they encounter them.
