Vester Flanagan wasn't Mentally Ill so he would have been able to make the purchase. He was crazy. It was well known. He should not have been allowed to buy a gun legally.

I am not against sensible gun purchase control, what I am against is knee jerk, media driven laws enacted to "put a band aid" on a problem. Those on the left seem to what to grasp on to menacing catch phrase like "assault rifle" and banning such a weapon will stop all of these problems, when the reality is, "assault rifles) i.e. AK47, SKS, AR15 are used in less than 1% of murders in this country according to FBI statistics. When the assault weapons bill i.e. brady bill was allowed to expire, violent crime dropped over the next decade. The reason, the enactment and enforcement of the federal ban on felons owing weapons and the subsequent enactment of a 5 year min sentence for a felon in possession. A recent study indicated that out of 90 cities with the highest murder rates, cities where this law was aggressively pursued and prosecuted ranked higher (meaning better) in reducing criminals acts with a weapon, where cities such as Detroit and Chicago ranked near the bottom of the list, with the DOJ not pursuing the harsh prosecutions. Its not the weapon its the idiot behind the trigger. I would support some common sense approaches to making mental health one of the criteria to allow gun purchases.
Does wearing a seatbelt prevent wrecks from occurring? No, but we still wear them anyway. Just because one law may or may not have prevented this, does not mean the entire thing should be thrown out without even trying. This case for example, when it happened there were those even on this board calling for a ban on assault weapons, no assault weapon was used, and the FBI indicates that they are used in less than 1% of all violent crimes. But they are owned and used by millions of people in this country for legal and sporting purposes. The reaction was knee jerk and would change little if anything, except to allow some to feel like their doing something. Until we as a country are ready to address mental health, and we are ready to instill in our youth the value of life this will not stop regardless of what law is passed.
Are you defending another homicidal maniac, asshole? Originally Posted by Yssup RiderHey, fuck you. I've never defended a homicidal maniac in my life. What information confirmed he had a clinical emotional disorder? He exhibited strange and violent behavior in previous positions. He verbally attacked coworkers and threatened physical violence. He was escorted from his last job by officers after a violent outburst. That was 2 years ago. Why none of this was reported to anyone is how we have nuts still running around out there. Someone has to say something to the right people and get these people documented as mentally unstable.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't defend his horrible and unconscionable actions.
Anyway, I'm in favor of gun control, and I would vote to repeal the 2nd amendment. So, other than you being gay, an asshole, a stupid motherfucker, and the undisputed two time DOTY, we are on the same side of this issue. Originally Posted by DSK
