Another young porn star dies

Suicides in porn are unfortunately not all that uncommon. It's a very sad reality that a lot a adult film actresses deal with deep depression and other mental health problems.

This social media age makes it even tougher for those with mental instability, I would imagine. People say much harsher things to people online than they would ever dream of saying in person.

We could use more civility here on eccie.

I wish people could remember that they can just close the app or ignore bullies. Realize that bullies, both online and off, only have the power you let them have. Don't react or reply to them. Certainly don't end your life. No amount of shaming is worth it. Nothing is that bad. What ever you are going through may suck for a long time. It will get better, however! Ask for help! Dont be ashamed to ask for it.

A couple of the gay porn actors told her (August Ames) to go kill herself, take a cyanide pill, the world will be better without her.

They are still on Twitter and they are still in porn. They should be prosecuted!

If they can prosecute (and convict) that young woman for bullying her boyfriend over text and convince him to commit suicide, I don't see any reason why would this be any different.

The suicide rate among young women in the last few years has risen dramatically.

I am sure that if you narrow it down to a certain subset of say, sexworkers, the numbers would be very very sad.

Online bullying, harassment etc compounds the issue.

I don't understand why people can't be more civil when discussing hot topics. There IS no discussion anymore. It devolves into hatred vomit.

People are also tying their worth and reputation too tightly to the online businesses they've created like twitter presences and other social media.

You are so right. People hide behind the anonymity of the internet as an excuse to be mean to others. They say things that they would never say face to face. Meanwhile, we've stopped having conversations and we've stopped listening.

So many people are looking for a human connection and just can't find it. Some people react by committing suicide and others immerse themselves in a non-real on-line world.

I'll bet you see a lot of men coming through your doors who desire intimacy as much as sex. Yes, the younger men are all about the sex. But beyond 40 or so they start missing a personal connection.

I'm not sure you can call what has been happening in our society for the last 20 years "progress".

Seems as we are seeing more and more of this across all social and economic lines with the younger crowd.
I do feel that the Internet/Social media helps to feed this along with some under laying issues including Mental Health and Drugs.
It just seems to more acceptable with the younger group.

What happened to make people so fucking fragile? I personally blame Oprah (all that you go girl empowerment shit). August already had problems. She had been abused or some shit in the past or had substance abuse.
