The other unsaid part of this is once these kids get into college, they are suddenly competing for grades against people who are now quite a bit smarter than they are. The cheaters are therefore almost guaranteed to get poor grades, relatively speaking.

Truly elite colleges probably confer benefits even if your grades are not stellar. But once you get outside the top 15 schools, and into the second tier like USC, I’m not sure what benefit you get if the price for being there is to be a perpetual marginal low C student. Will it get you a job on Wall Street? Depends on which firm and what job. Not at Goldman Sachs. They hire not in academic record though that’s kind of a prerequisite for getting your foot in the door. But they hire on personality fit and background diversify. But could you get a job in a boiler room doing cold calls Hokem, Wink, and Nodd? Sure.

Out of those 10 jobs listed on that college ranker website, I can only see the application toward Teacher, Archeologist, Graphic Designer or Artist and maybe writer.

Giving endowments is a stupid way get one or two offspring into a given university. My parents have an endowment at a private university that funds two full scholarships. They also have building named in their honor. I never attended. I also had to pay for every penny of my education because it made me "a better person."

Dunno how it works now but back in the day it's cheaper just to bribe the appropriate individuals. And c'mon, it's USC.
