Well, we had 7 deaths overnight in Texas, so a spike in Houston may be causing it, but it isn't a geometric increase in deaths, yet.

If we test 100,000 people in the next week then we will know a little better.

Thanks to American ingenuity, last week the entire country had results of over 550,000 tests, with about 90,000 positives. This is among people presenting and who met the criteria with obvious symptoms. No one doubts a significantly higher number of people have the disease without symptoms - another million tests over the next two weeks should tell us much more.

We need a few more days of significant data to say for certain.

Most of those actually dying are old and have other unhealthy conditions. Originally Posted by friendly fred

Sounded like Cuomo was rethinking the idea of everybody staying home. Like I said, put one infected person in any high rise in New York and you have a good chance of infecting many, many people in that building by just opening their door and entering a hallway.

I think there is probably a correlation to a population that lives in high rises. Originally Posted by HedonistForever

"social distancing" as a preventative to acquiring the Wuhan corona virus is clearly adversely affected by increasing population density - where the out of "home" trips one must take to maintain survival - or contact with people who do that for One - are inevitably in contact with many people - it is unavoidable. We still get mail, go to the grocery store, and in Ny -take taxis, or receive deliveries. Human contact is unavoidable - and transmission more frequent in high population density areas like NY.

"The “incubation period” means the time between catching the virus and beginning to have symptoms of the disease. Most estimates of the incubation period for COVID-19 range from 1-14 days, most commonly around five days. These estimates will be updated as more data become available."

So let's give it another week or so before reaching any conclusions as to whether or not the spread of the virus has slowed in those areas due to stay at home orders.

You could certainly be correct.

In the last 7 days, over 500,000 test results have come in.

In the last 24 hour period, almost 100,000 tests results have come in.

We are some kind of serious testing motherfuckers.

https://covidtracking.com/us-daily/
29Mar2020 positive tests 2,552 negative tests 23,208 deaths 34 total tests 25,760
30Mar2020 positive tests 2,877 negative tests 33,003 deaths 38 total tests 35,880

We are beating this thing in Texas! Death rate in Texas for COVID-19 still very low and not growing.

Since 25 March Daily deaths 6, 5, 4, 7, 4

Texas got results for 10,000 tests overnight with only 325 new cases - in a state of 28.7 million
