For example, one should be tolerant of a person's race, gender, sexual orientation, religion (unless they're using it for hate or trying to impose it on others), country of origin, appearance, etc, but one need not tolerate racism, homophobia, sexism, xenophobia, etc., and in fact the paradox comes in because extreme tolerance, where you tolerate the aforementioned hate, will actually lead to an intolerant society.
