The Democratic Party Today: Not the way I Remembered it

The Democratic Party of 2025 is not what was envisioned by President Roosevelt (The New Deal) or President Kennedy (lets go to there moon) . . .or President Johnson ( The Great Society) It is not there party of the party of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. It isn't even the party of President Clinton.

Pelosi and Schumer are passing he torch (perhaps unwillingly) to the likes of AOC, Omar and others who are so far to the left that they make Bill Maher look like he is a centrist, never Trump Republican like Mitt Romney.

The new face of the party may soon be one of the self-identified socialist mayors from either New York or Minneapolis . . .or perhaps LA.

If you are a lifelong Democrat or left leaning independent, think it over. Think about what the Democratic Party was during the height of the Civil rights Movement . . .or what it was as lately as the Clinton administration . . .and then look at what it has become in 2025. Then look at what you yourself believe in and what you stand for. and decide if that is the type of Democrat that you are.
You’ll never recruit any Dems to your side with you 100000 threads about Dems. Give it up man. You rehash this almost every three months with a new thread. Dems aren’t like the old Dems. Blah blah blah. Trumpulicans aren’t the old republicans I remember from the 90s and 2000s. Why not focus on your own party?

The quote, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country," is from John F. Kennedy's inaugural address. Delivered on January 20, 1961, this famous line challenged Americans to think about their civic responsibility and public service, according to the JFK Library. The quote is widely considered one of the most memorable and enduring parts of his speech

At a recent family gathering, my brother-in-law dropped a bombshell on me when he said, "I am a Never-Trump-Republican".

It is my belief that there are many Democrats who just can't support Trump, Indeed he has tragic flaws as profound as any of the Kennedys, FDR or the Clintons. Yet, it is policy and its implementation that really matter . . .Ther are folks who have come to see the disfunction brought on us all by the policies of the Biden Administration. These folks can become "never-trump-Republicans.

It is to those people that I address my thoughts.
Yes we know. Every few months in a new post here saying basically the same thing.

That the Democratic Party has changed is not the point. So has the Republican Party as someone has pointed out.

The point of the OP is how much the Democratic Party has changed and more importantly, what it has changed into. I lived through the politics of the sixties and seventies and experienced what the Democratic administrstions did in the interests of altering American society for the betterment of the working clsss, minorities and those of us less fortunate.

What I have seen in the Twenty First Century is Democrats embracing a shift from "liberal do-gooding" as my father might have put it, to policies that are destructive to America society, culture and national security through actions (or in actions) inside and outside of government hat seem to be intentionally destructive.

And so, I ask folks to look at that change and to compare what they see in the Democratic Party of 2025 with what they themselves believe. what they themselves stand for . . . .and ask if the Democratic Party ion today s congruent with their life path.
