Waco Kid's college football 2025 CFP Finals

Each week upcoming games can be discussed and predictions made, name-calling after victories and general all-around college football discussion! Each week will be closed out by the next Monday and a new thread opened for the current college football schedule for each week.

Rules -

"Rules?? We don't need no stinkin’ rules!”

Actually we do.

WKWCFR rule 1

"Lies, damn lies and statistics!"

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli

If you quote a stat, record, 3rd down conversion rate, an all-time mark or the number of jock straps an 85-man team needs ...

Post it! If you can't post a link to it, it's bogus!
What's valid in the Internet age? Just about anything! Any of the major sports publications, local newspapers, any of the big networks and official school and NCAA sites just to cover the big ones.

WKWCFR rule 2

Predictions must be posted 1 day in advance! If you haven't read the sports page and figgured out who's going to win by the day before ya never will!

Must be time stamped before Midnight the day before game-day, for any weekly games Thur-Sun on the current weekly schedule.

So there you have it, pretty basic! You can post on general topics of your favorite teams regardless of that week's opponent. Just remember WKWCFR rule 1

the Bambino rule

feel free to post any college match ups of your favorite teams ranked or not. at any level of football. if you post it TWK will make a pick for the game.

Indiana winning the title would be the ultimate underdog story.

GO IU!!!
... Not seeing a big rout... Miami is too good for that.
Reckon Indiana will have their hands full.
... But I think they will prevail.

Bobby always said that the '74-'75 team was his best ever. Even better than the 32-0 team in '75-'76. Their margin of victory as they swept the Big 10 was 22.8 pts per game. Almost unheard of. Had IU forward sensation Scotty May not broken his arm toward the end of the season, they would've easily gone 2 years undefeated consecutively. 61-1 over a 2 year period was just so damn glorious. The motion offense + tenacious defense was what made IU so hard to play.

So in '87 as a senior at IU, I got to experience their 3rd national championship under Bobby (and 5th NC overall). Being on campus for that victory was probably the single most unifying event I've ever experienced. Everyone running to Showalter Fountain to celebrate. Partying for 24 hours straight. Good memories.

Yes, it's fair to say that Coach Knight and Coach Cig would've been great friends.

Here's a superb SI article that covers the '74-'75 and '75-'76 teams. https://www.si.com/college-basketbal...-digital-cover

IU won the year after UofL in 81 and 87. our campus was JACKED!!! quite sure it was the same in Bloomington! my cousin was there for 81 but graduated before 87.

it was great! everyone wearing UofL red, the professors for an entire week would celebrate in class for about 5-10 minutes! we had on campus celebrations. and the big ones at Freedom Hall with the team and coach Crum both times. awesome!

i met Bob Knight once, my Dad and uncle are also UofL alums and my uncle knew Denny Crum, they were golfing buddies and i had met him a few times with my uncle golfing.

so just after our 86 title in the off season i was on campus going to the student center and at Crawford gym UofL's old practice facility coach Crum walks out and guess who's with him? Bob Knight! coach Crum recognized me and introduced me to coach Knight! we chatted for a few minutes then went on our way. coach Knight was one BIG GUY! 6'5" easy! i'm 6 foot and felt short standing next to him! great memory!

coach Knight didn't respect too many coaches but he respected coach Crum. and for coach Knight that's saying something. no doubt he would have respected coach Cignetti and would have supported him and IU football 101 percent!

if he was still alive coach Cignetti would have made sure he was on the sideline to watch IU win!

You just reminded me why my crew (fellow alum buddies) used to wish that Louisville would win this year. Next year. Any year! That was because both of their NCAA championships in '80 and '86 were followed by IU's championships a year later. We really did use to chant that. LOL. Purvis Ellison was effing amazing. I remember that team well.

I remember Bobby's stories of the many fishing trips with Denny Crum and Digger Phelps (of Notre Dame). All great buddies - unless it was game time.

Glad you got to meet the coaches. That must've been something.

Just a small point: My girlfriend was in the same dorm as Keith Smart's girlfriend (Keith Smart - "the shot"). Several on the team would hang out together in the cafeteria, and you know what struck me as bizarre? They never once talked about basketball. Not once. I think Bobby's slaughterhouse practices (especially after losses) gave them more than their fill of basketball.

Good times, man. This week has really brought me back, too.
