What are your thoughts on this? Insurance that tracks your driving.

Auto insurance? I currently pay 304.00 a month for two vehicles, full coverage and one is new, three months old actually.
You'll be saving over $400.00 per month.
Buy a new phone with a new carrier (cheapest compatible device & plan you can find) & set everything up on that phone.
Leave it at home 95% of the time.
Your premium may even go lower because it will show that you rarely drive the car.
The $ you'll save will be much greater than what you spend on the phone.
If they start asking questions say you're a hermit & work from home. Originally Posted by MarcellusWalluz

If tiger woods rolls over his genesis in the forest and no one is around to see it, does it count as an accident on his insurance record?

Hell yeah! His iPhone reported the crash as it happened as did the onboard Genesis telemetry.

Heck they know when your semen erupts - there’s an app for that, right next to the Flo app in the App Store or Google Play.

F that shit. One more device tracking you while participating in this hobby is just a bad idea. Also, once they have that data, who's to say what the insurance companies would do with it. Originally Posted by corona

I downloaded the app my company uses as they were going to raise my rate if I didn't. When I check the app it shows a discount but I never see a reduction on my bill. It will ding you for moving your phone while driving. They do monitor acceleration and braking. Also I'm pretty sure the new vehicles track you anyway. Originally Posted by Quentintime

I did it once for a lower rate with Progressive. Nothing was different in my life other than yet another app taking up space in my phone, and I got the discount. But I also drive like a grandma. Originally Posted by CurvyKatie

One of my friends did that "Snapshot" device that plugged into your car thing and screwed them over. He popped it into his car then only drove it to and from the store (max mileage 40 miles a month and speed no faster than 45). How he got to work is a co-worker gave him a lift.

After the allotted time frame they gave him a sweet deal, he turned in the device then drove normal Originally Posted by GhostRiderYYZ

My only worry would be if I drove - let's say 10k - with the "real" phone & only 2k with the "fake" phone & get in a wreck, do you think they would be so thorough if I got in accident & they know I had 25k miles when I signed up, but now my car has 37k miles, but they only have 2k worth of data on my driving - do you think they would look into that & possibly deny my claim?

The policy has already started so at this point I am just going to wait until I get my 1st or 2nd bill & see what happens.

I wish there was a way that I could look on the app & see how they are starting to conclude the data. But after having this policy for a little over a week now & really thinking about my speed when driving (mostly on the freeway) & how hard I take off at lights. I just don't see how this could benefit me.

I really wish I would have given it some more thought before signing up so quickly. I guess I'll find out in the coming months.

I found another company willing to give me a similar rate as the discount without having to do the app, so I switched. And also Progressive can eat a bag of dicks for being jerks.
