Sex worker/Stripper Charity Tech Camp

I want to start a charity camp for sex workers and strippers where they go to a free camp and get taught a technology certification like A+. There can even be a shorts on screening clients with tech (though the goal is to get them out of sex work, at least they will be seeing somewhat safer clients since they are heavily screened)

I want it to be a camp where they come, have a stable roof over their head, are fed healthy foods, and can learn in an environment where they feel safe to ask all the newbie questions they want.

There would have to be a class on how to get a real job with a prostitution or drug charge on your record.

There would also be an post graduation class where they learn how to write a resume and practice interviewing skills. There would also be a career center available where the girls would have help in finding a real world job using their new certification.

I need sponsorship. Anyone have any ideas on companies that would not be ashamed to sponsor this?

Maybe I am missing the point, but it sounds like a community college would provide all of these, outside of the roof over one's head and what not. Why not have a lady do it the old fashioned way and save up money, pay for room and board, then take classes and certifications at the school like everyone else? Besides, it would be very low-key and not attract attention as a "hooker camp" or something along those lines which I GUARANTEE the local media outlets would be labeling this place. I just think the amount of press and attention you would draw to yourselves would outweigh any possible benefits, and would make any potential sponsors very weary.

As for dealing with drug/prostitution charges on an arrest record, hire an attorney, and pay to have the arrest records sealed. It is a pretty painless, albeit somewhat expensive, process. Attorneys are the real ones screwing people these days! If there are felonies on the record, you are pretty much screwed and it will follow you like a black cloud for the rest of your life, unless you can get it knocked down/reduced to a lesser charge. That is just a fact of life I'm afraid.

The next thought I had was how many ladies are you hoping to get here? Unless there is a mass-exodus from the hobby by a bunch of ladies at once (please don't let this happen!) it seems you would be running thin in way of enrollment numbers. Unless I misunderstand your intentions, you seem to want to cater exclusively to ex-providers or retiring providers. It just seems like a limited number of potential candidates for the program.

I like the idea of helping people that want to get out of this business but it needs to start when they are capable of helping themselves. The ladies can make good money in this business and they need to do what people in all other occupations do which is plan for the future by saving money and making investments either in themselves or in assets so that they have alternatives. I do not look at providers as victims but as proffesionals. They need to act and plan accordingly. If you want to help people learn how to do that you would probably do more good in the long run. However, some people will act irresponsibly regardless of your efforts.

(I know that there are the exceptions from human trafficking and other abusive situations and I am not talking about them.)

Surprisingly many of us do have all that I have mentioned above along with a house or apartment (or both) and vehicle. Not all of us have criminal records either. For some it is what we/they enjoy doing rather than working for someone else and there rules/policies.

I understand that not ALL of us fall in to this category, but for many of us its what we enjoy doing. It's a way to make are own schedule while attending school or while already working a "real world" job and just adding to savings or play money, etc..

Although this does sound like a noble idea, there are already groups that do this. Also, there are places and programs that with just a google search, will teach a person (anyone) how to write a resume for free. Or a small fee.

As far as getting a job with a record, if they HAVE a record then they probably already know what they need to do.

I don't know. Perhaps it's my age, but there are many of us who do have an education past high school, have pretty good writing skills and other types of acumen who surprisingly, actually choose this lifestyle as a vocation and don't need saving from it.

I would suggest learning how to write grants and go in that direction, gather information from other groups that help escorts who wish to get out of this business and then create a plan of action.

Read business books and perhaps contact the Small Business Administration. It's good politics to help us poor souls right now, which I find completely offensive on many levels, so it might be easier than you think. But grants are the way to go. With the economy and non-profits are actually chewing on their own skin to get donations, etc., it's going to be a very tough road to get a corporate sponsorship, if indeed that even exists other than in forms of donating funds.

A good foundation that donates to many causes with their own grant money is The Meadows Foundation located here in Dallas. Might be a tough sell at best. There is a good book, Grant Writing for Dummies, which I actually like that you might could purchase at a 1/2 Priced Book Store that would be a good starting point.

Pepper, you crack me up! Honey, as Elisabeth said, there are lots of organizations out there already. And, if the goal is to help women get out of the profession...why would you want to have them work at the camp? That defeats the purpose...but, good-luck!
