Secret Software Tracks Phone Users (interesting video)

For the TL;DR rundown, this app is called Carrier IQ (CIQ). It can be installed on many devices although most notably, android. Carriers proven to contain it are Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. Also note that while Verizon claims to not have this, they do still record everything you do and sell it off. I would highly recommend reading up on this. Below are links to several sites (the first being xda where you can also get help.) The original site is included however I have yet to be able to access it due to an error.

Here's another article on the MSN homepage today:

And you can read what CARRIER IQ has to say on their homepage at the top under MEDIA ALERT.

I'm glad I downgraded my phone to a non-android/blackberry/iphone type machine.
Yeah, thank the gods I can uninstall it. As far as my hobby phone goes, glad it's a little pre-paid flip thing.

It's times like this I honestly miss europe with its wide selection of pre-paid options (both the SIM cards and refill cards) sold almost everywhere.

Hijacking my own thread...you both must have dirty minds or you're very hungry. lol
Maybe a nude picnic is in order. I'll bring the buns if both of you bring the wieners.

Lucky for me, my Thunderbolt doesn't have it and I opted out of all of the VZW tracking crap.

Great points Mr D. I will adjust my Warnings to reflect "non-smart" phones.

And come on group, do not surrender your common sense to the Tech Gods as it regards this thing of ours.
More is not better, smarter is not secure.

The codes in these smartphones are capable of all kinds of things as it relates to data collection.

Be well, play smart!
