Note the number of pipelines that already crisscross Nebraska. Many of them were laid in the '60s and have been there for 50 years. And none of the pipelines have EVER leaked without immediate detection and none of the LEAKS have ever made it through the ground or into bodies of water far enough to contaminate any aquifers. SURE!

The US went to Canada with concerns that the production from oil sands produced more CO2 and had more environmental impact than normal oil production. Canada told them to mind their own business. Canada admitted when they backed out of Kyoto in part because their CO2 footprint was growing due to the oil sands production.
This is the "talking point" that Obama is pissed off about because he has no control over Canada and cannot appease the eviro-nazis on this issue. It has nothing to do with the aquifer. My understanding is there's an oil pipeline already running thru the aquifer.
Have fun riding your unicorn to the polls. Hope your alarm clock is powered by Solyndra energy. Originally Posted by gnadfly

And Wave, please let me know where the last three major pipeline leaks occurred, and the what the consequences were. Thank you. Originally Posted by CuteOldGuy

Most of you are not old enough to remember when the Alaskan Pipeline was proposed. The same arguments were put forth then, but the adults won the arguement and it's safety record has been top notch.

Perhaps you have heard about La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. Think of the drilling and pipelines as preemptive despoliation.
HELL, one East Texas pipeline leaked less than 10 years ago and the resulting pocket of leaked natural gas BLEW THE FUCKING SHIT out of a young couple who were minding there own business driving through the area when their car ignited the leaked natural gas.
