Wine

Can someone help me out here. Even though I've been to KC numerous times............

Can someone tell me the location of a good place to buy some great wine? I don't want to go a liquor store, just a wine store. Around the Plaza area please.

I'm feeling the need for Moscato or a nice Chianti/Merlot.

Thanks.
Mmmm...I love a good Mascato!

Okay if you in the Plaza area you have got to go to "The Better Cheddar"!
Berbiglia is, technically I guess, a liquor store, but they tout themselves as "Wine and Spirits". There is a store at 4500 Belleview (just down the hill south from Westport Rd and SW Trafficway).

There is also a SunFresh grocery store right there at Westport and SW Tfwy that has a pretty decent selection of wines. If you're needing to get some groceries for the hotel room, as well, this might be a good "one-stop-shopping".

Other wine guys/gals might be able to give you better ideas, Elena. Safe travels!
Sorry meant to hit preview....lol

Anyways,

If you wanna drive a few minutes north for good wine go to this place near the City Market "Cellar & Loft". They let you sample, it's great!
Try this..not the Plaza..but only a short drive. A cool wine and cheese shop.

Better Cheddar does have a nice selection. Or try Gomers up around 39th and Main.

If you are ever in Parkville, try a little place called Wines by Jen. It is in old town and she gets some hard to find vino.

Sorry didn't read the other posts.

I know this is fairly far south of the Plaza...but it is also Kansas largest inventory of wines and spirits.

I have a good friend, who is a true wine cons....and in terms of great selection he would recommend Lucas Liiquors. 119th & Metcalf, basically

Again, not on the Plaza, is a liquor store...but superiour quality.

And then of course there is the Red X, just north of the river....perhaps not quite the quality of Lucas, but I have been told very competitive pricing, probably alittle closer than Lucas to the Plaza.

There are certainly other places I could mention, but these two are fairly easy to get too, and nice selection.

I have been told the restuarant just off the Plaza...J.J.'s also has a superior wine selection. And with a little charm, I'm sure they would
be willing to sell ya stuff off menu...without eating there., but due to BS State liquior laws might be a problem?? But in their case, you would be paying much higher restaurant pricing (which can be negoiated down somewhat.)

Although I am a foodie, I don't know wine at all. But the food board I hang out at has this thread:

Best wine selection at a wine shop/ liquor store in KC?
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/327228

It is pretty old, but it seconds the other comments here.

Cellar Rat at 16th and Baltimore in the Crossroads
Royal Liquor at 103rd and State Line in south KC
Luca's at 1119th and State Line in south KC
Loft and Cellar on 63rd in Brookside
Red X north of the river in Riverside
Good list KCQ!!!
Thank you all for your suggestions. As luck would have it, I was to busy to try and venture out for wine. But, I did have a wonderful Moscato with my dinner date tonight and I'm going to pick some up tomorrow (Weds) before I leave.

I shall keep this list for future use.

Thanks again.
I don't usually buy alcohol, but when I do it is usually fish eye moscato in a box. Love it!
Why on earth would you qualify that with "not a liquor store". Does nebraska separate wine and liquor?
Cosentinos Brookside Market (63rd and Main)has an incredible wine selection, and Gomers at 39th and Main (since it reopened) is very good. He really knows his Rhones too.
