^^i agree with almost everything you said. but Maersk isn't exactly a greenhorn in the global shipping biz, and for them, the transit was worth the risk.
i think it will come down to a decision company by company-including insurance companies-and captain by captain.

crazy fact, it was helo gunships that took out the IRGC fast attack boats yesterday, not F-18s, A-10s, or missiles directly from a destroyer.
